Five Ways To Promote Your Blog

Status Updates On Social Networks

What you are doing now updates have spread like Wildfire.  By now just about everyone knows about Twitter, but not everyone is aware that there are at least five other social networks offering status updates, namely, Facebook, LinkedIn, Naymz, Plaxo, and Merchant Circle.  While LinkedIn, Naymz, and Merchant Circle must still be updated manually, you can have your Twitter updates automatically update Facebook and Plaxo.

Another way to update all your social network profiles at once is by using Ping FM.  Here’s a link to the list of all social networks supported by Ping FM.  To make this work, of course, requires that you establish accounts with each individual social network.  Then all you have to do is click the Get Started link and input your login info for each.

Partial Posts on Search Engine Friendly Hosted Blog Services

While it’s still more advantageous to host your blog on your own domain, free hosted blog space is available from Wordpress and Blogger and at the time of this writing, at least two search engine friendly local directories, Merchant Circle and Show Me Local.  Because they are spidered regularly by the major search engines, the free hosted blog spaces would be valuable for the links back to your website and blog alone.  When you publish partial posts with a link to the full post on your main blog, however, they are even more valuable.  More often than not, these partial posts will be listed in the major search engines themselves. Simply copy and paste your post title and your first paragraph, followed by, “to read the full post, (your post name), visit (your blog name) and make the post name your anchor text link.

Press Release

Just as there should be a press release for the launch of your website, there should be another written and distributed to announce the launch of your blog.

Articles

A related article should be written and published in one of the article directories with a link back to your blog in the author resource box.  Another way to accomplish the same result would be to publish one or more additional articles as a Squidoo lens.

Blog and RSS Directories

Just as there are free general directories to promote your website, there are free blog and RSS directories to promote your blog.  Because the major search engines spider the blog directories on a regular basis, the quality back links your blog directory listings create will also help improve your rankings on Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft Bing.

While most of the blog directories are free, the Best of the Web Blog Directory requires a fee in the amount of $75.00 per year.  The Best of the Web Blog Directory also offers free submission within an unspecified time frame.  Either way, however, your blog must have a history of six months.  Here’s a link to the best RSS and blog directories, listed by Google Page Rank and Alexa traffic ratings.
