Where in the World is Dosh Dosh?

This morning I noticed in my Pageflakes RSS Reader that the popular Dosh Dosh blog hadn’t been updated for more than three months. Hard to tell exactly how long it’s been because he’s smarter than the rest of us and didn’t date his posts. The comments, however, do have dates, beginning with May 18th, 2009.

After checking the About page for clues and finding none, I decided to turn to Twitter for answers, (yet another use for Twitter, I suppose) and Twitter came through. The following four @doshdosh tweets pretty much explain what was up:

“What people usually do is work 11 months and take a 1 mth vacation. What if you could flip that? Reverse it – 11 mth vacation, 1 mth work.”

“Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of a permanent vacation (not death). But a vacation for the whole working year(s).”

“If you’re making money online, focus on a method that could run on its own. Really frees you up to do whatever you want with your life.”

“Having auto-pilot income is awesome. I didn’t get online the past 3 months and still made enough to cover all my vacation expenses.”

Dosh Dosh’s last blog post, which very well could literally be his last post, entitled, “An Essential Marketing Principle: Give Before You Try to Get,” explains that “the underlying principle for successful online marketing is the art of giving before you try to get. Before you get something from someone, you need to first give them a reason for them to give it to you.” Of course, this is nothing new. This strategy has been around for years, and when combined with the word “free” to build trust and authority, more often than not works quite well.

Speaking of combining strategies, what would happen if everyone decided to go with the Dosh Dosh plan for eleven months of vacation and one month of work, or even the Tim Ferriss concept of “the Four Hour Workweek?”

For one thing there would be a whole lot fewer “just updated my blog” tweets!

Perhaps there’s a book deal in the works for Dosh Dosh. Considering all he’s already given, there’s probably no one who could do it better.
